Fayetteville, NC June 2016
This weekend several Apex Fencing Academy fencers traveled to All-American Fencing Academy in Fayetteville, North Carolina for their end-of-the-season tournament. On Saturday, Doug & Abel competed in the Teen & Adult men’s foil. The turnout was small, but father & son had fun regardless. Abel took pride defeating his dad in the final bout to take 1st place.
On Sunday it was the kids turn. Abel and Andy fenced in the 10-12 mixed foil while Andy’s sister Ania competed in 7-9 mixed foil. Abel completed the weekend with a second 1st place trophy in his age group. This is Abel’s last All-American Fencing Academy competition as a youth fencer; next year it’s teen & adults only for him. Andy improved throughout the pools with 1 V5 and 2 close D4 bouts reinforcing the point that every touch counts. Ania started off rocky in her pool bouts, but ended up 3rd out of 7 after the pools. Fighting her way to the finals, Ania again found herself down 4-7 in the DE. And again, she fought her way back to win 10-8. This was Ania’s 3rd tournament and 1st gold medal.
