In July, Apex Fencing Academy fencers made the trip to Dallas for the USA Fencing Summer Nationals/July Challenge. In attendance were over 3500 fencers competing over the 10 day event. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when 5 law enforcement officers were killed the night before the final events. Because of the shooting, the final day’s events were canceled, and Abel missed out on his Y12 competition.
Every fencer must qualify to make it to this level. Through their hard work, dedication, and perseverance, these seven AFA fencers made it. Here are the results:
Andrew Fregenal: Div2 Men’s Epee 24/199, Junior Men’s Epee 221/221
Abel Griswold: Y14 Men’s Foil T203/249, Y12 Men’s Foil – Canceled due to shootings in Dallas.
Tammy Jackson: Div3 Women’s Foil 118/136, Vet50 Women’s Epee 39/45, Vet 50 Women’s Foil 24/30
Nayeli Lahiri: Y14 Women’s Epee 129/149
Bilal Saiyid: Y14 Men’s Epee 182/188, Y12 Men’s Epee 92/115
Sam Wolstenholme-Britt: Div3 Women’s Epee 17/121, Div 3 Women’s Foil 57/136, Cadet Women’s Foil 151/158, Div2 Women’s Foil 104/148, Cadet Women’s Epee 44/109
Xan Wolstenholme-Britt: Div 3 Men’s Foil 81/174, Cadet Men’s Foil T159/169
As coaches, we’re extremely proud of their effort. They don’t do this on their own, the entire Apex Fencing family shares in their success. And of course, none of this would happen without the support of our parents. Thank you!
We hope everyone continues to work hard in the 2016-17 season and let’s all meet up in July in Salt Lake City!
