Olympic Fencing Wrapup

TeamUSALogoThere’s a week to go in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, but the individual and team fencing competition is complete. USA fencing has come a long way with the United States bringing home 2 individual silver medal — Alex Massialas in men’s foil and Daryl Homer in men’s sabre. In the team competition, the men’s foil team (G. Meinhardt, A. Massialas, M. Chamley-Watson, and R. Imboden) lost to Russia 45-41 before defeating Italy 45-31 for bronze. The next day, the women’s sabre team (M. Aksamit, M. Zagunis, D. Wozniak, and I. Muhammad) also lost a close bout to Russia 45-42 before defeating Italy 45-30 for the bronze.

Olympic fencing is not over yet! The modern pentathlon starts Thursday and features epee fencing as well as swimming, equestrian jumping, and combined 3200m cross-country run/shooting. Tune in Thursday to watch the fencing. www.nbcolympics.com/modern-pentathlon.
